News from the Westminster Bubble

Well would you believe it? He may not have won the popular vote, having attracted some two and half million votes less than Hilary "Cocked it up" Clinton, but Donald Trump is now the Commander In Chief. Described in one national newspaper as the head honcho of the Turd Reich, he has been both vilified and hero-worshipped in equal tonnage. We wait and watch as this unfurls and unravels with implications for the world. He is, as some say, 'his own...

It is often said that a week is a long time in politics. But, nowadays, it can literally be hours. With events happening in the immediate post EU referendum period, coupled with modern 24-hour instant communications, it is very dangerous to look too far ahead when commenting about current issues.

For instance, in a debate in the House of Lords back in July about measures to end poverty, the Minister in summing...

Mark’s Message

Hello there!

Health and Safety is widely regarded as a necessary evil, often used as the excuse why something cannot be done. We have all heard stories about kids wearing safety glasses to play the good old fashion game of conkers!! In reality, this type of approach to safety is a result of over enthusiastic safety officers who do not understand the regulations. It is also true to say that fear of claims drives many companies to overdo Health and Safety.

As long as we all use the...

August in the Westminster bubble is often described as the silly season. Parliament goes into recess, same as the schools, and it is bucket and spades for some while others push off to Phuket and the like. It is like a ghost town. Some may ask who is running the country? Good question. If it is running itself...who needs politicians? Don’t answer that! And let’s not get the Executive Chairman of Brooknight going on that one.

I recently had cause to reflect on the changes that have happened to the Security Industry over my time working within it.
